Birds of Prey Kung Fu/Tai Chi was created to bring real martial arts to the Houston area and to teach remotely through Zoom/Teams classes. There are currently students participating locally or nationally in 6 different states. When Master Mike was studying at his primary teacher’s school in NYC, Grandmaster Yee Shum Leung and Ying Jow Pai, Grandmaster Shum used to tell all the students that if a student someday wanted to build a school, to make it not just a school but a family! This philosophy has been employed since the beginning, when he opened Birds of Prey Kung Fu/Tai Chi and Houston Texas Asian Martial Arts almost 20 years ago.

At Birds of Prey Kung Fu/Tai Chi, we offer a variety of fighting, health, safety/situational awareness, and other programs which fit the diverse needs of a busy population. We teach Shum’s Ying Jow Pai Northern Eagle Claw, Shaolin Nine Bird Family Style, Northern Shaolin Long Fist, Southern White Crane, Yang Style Tai Chi, Filipino weapons (eskrima sticks and knife attack/self- defense), free style wrestling, and situational/awareness training. Whether one wants to become a great fighter through learning self-defense/applications/sparring/competing/situational awareness, or health programs through strenuous exercise/Yang tai chi, and Qi Gong, Birds of Prey provides a safe and exciting environment for both adults and kids. The four main elements of a good fighter are all covered: striking, kicking, chin na (art of grabbing and controlling one’s opponent), and grappling/ground fighting.

Birds of Prey Kung Fu/Tai Chi is a certified Continuing Education provider for the Texas Real Estate Commission, assisting realtors, real estate agents, apartment managers, and workers in their awareness, safety, and self-defense needs when showing homes, commercial properties, or traveling to and from locations. The school also offers corporate health programs.
